We had a very successful inaugeral WWI Commemoration Evening in the College on Oct 26 last.
It kicked off on the speaker front with Noel Coghlan, class '57 who weaved the context of the Belle Époche around the tale of his uncle's service and his continued role in commemorating that. Next up was Peter Power-Hynes, class '70 who gave a masterly overview of the forensic tools he uses to investigate and resolve WWI queries. It was confirmation, if any was every needed, of the wisdom of appointing Peter as lead for the military records stream of our SVC project. Last up, and it's not a reflection on the previous speakers to say this, but we kept the best wine till last, for Dr. Pat McCarthy delivered a tour de force in the form of the a tribute to the SVC 'Pals' of D Company, 7th Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
Lorcan then introduced the SVC WWI Honour Roll and the project team who hope to bring the Roll to a final published version, which College Headmaster, Oliver Murphy has pledged to then publish in book form.
After a lively Q&A session, the evening closed with College President, Very Rev. Peter. Slevin, CM, leading on the The Komina Prayer
