John Coghlan, class '07, European Cross-Country Gold
Where are they now
Heartiest congratulations to John Coghlan and his team mates on making athletics history at the 17th European Cross-Country Championships in Portugal last weekend. John was part of the team that pulled off Ireland's first team title (winning by a whopping 18-point margin) and shocked Europe's best by becoming European Champions in the Men's U-23 Cross Country Championships.
Anne Keenan-Buckley, the Irish team manager, stressed not to underestimate this rare achievement and
“we should realise that these are seriously talented athletes and a fantastic encouragement to younger athletes that we are well able to compete at the European Championships and bring home medals”.
John, who was crowned All-Ireland Schools Senior Cross Country Champion in his final year in Castleknock College, is carrying on his studies at DCU where he continues his fantastic winning ways in both Track & Field and Cross Country.
Well done John and may continued success be yours.
