Jody Fanagan ends 35 year wait for golf glory...
Father & son Golf Champions
-
The All-Ireland Father & Son Golf competition started in 1961 at the Castle Golf Club and has been played there every year since. Over the years many Irish Internationals and current professionals have taken part - Mark Bloom Tom Craddock, Noel Fox to mention a few and famous past winners include the late Joe Carr and son Roddy, the McKenna's from Bray twice and the Power's from Stackstown three times, and now joining that illustrious list are the 2016 Champions, Jody Fanagan, class '83 and his son Harry.
Jody of course as all know was part of the Walker Cup team in 1995 when Europe won due in no small part to Jody taking the scalp of Tiger Woods. But that pales compared to his efforts to win this competition. He first entered playing alongside his father Joe, then with his son Hugo and eventually it came good this Sunday with his son Harry, who by all accounts had to carry him!
Congrats to both.
They are not however the first Knock winners for the 2014 Champions were Paul G. Grimes, class '96 and his father Paul, so belated congratulations to them also.
We'll have to organise a play-off to ascertain the overall Knock Champions..
