Doubles Tennis Tournament 2010

Friday 18th June. Castleknock College Union held an inaugural, and very successful, past pupils Doubles Tennis Tournament on a glorious summer’s day in Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club. To cater for all standards, the tournament was organised in two separately graded groups, and was followed with dinner and presentations in a private room in the clubhouse. A full quota of players from across the country (and the years!) turned out. The pairings were generally fair and resulted in good competitive matches. In the end, there were worthy winners in Group 1 - Jim Fitzsimons and Julian Clarke - who saw off a strong challenge from Gerry Cleary (both snr and jnr!) and Oliver Murphy. Group 2 was a bit more straightforward for the winners John F Burke and Louis Dowley, who were a very strong team, and who will be promoted to Group 1 next year to test themselves properly!! Thanks to everyone who turned up and to Fiachra Lennon for all his help. Also thanks to Fitzwilliam LTC for allowing use of the courts on a busy Friday afternoon and for the lovely meal afterwards. By the reaction on the day, it is certainly planned to make this a regular annual event, so roll on 2011 and the beautiful weather!
