About the exhibitors -
FROM KNOCK, TO ROCK AND BACK AGAIN!
A collection of the art of Patrick Palmer
Patrick Palmer is an oil painter in the great spirit of classical Irish painters. He explores the inescapable beauty of light and colour in landscape through the details of his surroundings, communicating their significance in the richness of oil paint and his clean sense of design.
Patrick Palmer was born and raised in Co Waterford, Ireland, attended Castleknock College and graduated in the class of 1968, studied at the National College of Art and Design, and worked in advertising in Dublin. Patrick travelled the world in his twenties, arriving in San Francisco in 1979, finding love and happiness, marrying Pamela, a fellow artist, in 1980. He worked throughout the 1980's as the designer of tour books, posters and merchandise for the biggest rock and roll bands coming through the West Coast under the flag of Bill Graham Presents, then the most influential West Coast promoter of concerts and events in California. Patrick created iconic collectible posters for Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Ozzie Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen, Run DMC, The Grateful Dead, and many, many others.
When Patrick made the decision to return home to Ireland to paint the Irish landscape, after 28 years abroad, he did so with an expanded perspective on the light, colour, sea, sky and atmosphere of his beloved country.
From Knock to Rock and Back Again….. is not only a collection of work from Patrick's rock and roll days, but also new paintings from the present, expressing his creative energy which translates throughout his beautiful images. Past pupil, Patrick Palmer, '68, proudly supports the efforts of Father Slevin and Castleknock College, to encourage an appreciation for the arts in its young students.
