Having taken on the task of organising our 45th reunion, time of the year and location were adjudged as the keys to success. With this in mind, we chose the first weekend in December, Holidays were over and with Christmas a few weeks away all thought it was the best option to get the group together and so it worked out to be. Regarding the beautiful location out in the wilds of Connemara, we found it much easier to keep everyone together and have a good weekend, again it worked out to be very positive and a successful move.
Renvyle House was our chosen location for the reunion and it was an inspired choice. The management bent over backwards to facilitate us, throwing in little extras such as a lovely cake in Castleknock colours for the occasion and a pre-dinner drinks reception, with canapés provided, and all on the house. The food provided at Renvyle was second to none. The entertainment provided and general atmosphere was just magic.
We gathered on Friday evening and got a bus into Clifden where we met at Guy’s bar for snacks, food and drinks. On Saturday morning activities for the day included cycling, a tour of Connemara and guided walks with pit stops organised and for those who did not want to participate in activities, they had the options of visiting Kylemore Abbey or Roundstone. Thankfully we were blessed with fine, dry weather for the entire weekend.
Saturday evening we had our drinks reception followed by dinner and you can see from the photographs the wonderful display of Castleknock colours and décor. A great evening was had by all with departures on Sunday morning following a hearty breakfast.
The class of ’71 has always been a close year and traditionally we have had great turn outs for our reunions which occur every 5 years. Andrew Kennedy has kindly taken on the task of organising our 50th reunion and I wish him every success.
