2010 Good Friday Retreat
Good Friday, Castleknock College
If we have died with Christ we shall live with him (Romans 6:8)
This is the theme Fr Colm McAdam C.M. has chosen for the Good Friday Day of Reflection and Renewal (i.e. updated description of Retreat). The day will begin at 9.30 a.m. for registration, the scene being set with the opening talk at 10 a.m. (as sharp as we can).
Fr Colm grew up in Clontarf and attended St Paul’s College. He worked for some years in Trinity College before it was possible for a Catholic to be there. His time in Trinity was with Dublin University Press where he brushed shoulders with the great and the good (Moodys, Pattersons, etc.) Ordained in 1977, he taught in St Pat’s Armagh (religious education) for 11 years, being dean for part of that time. He went to St John’s University, New York in 1988 where he obtained an MA in religious studies. Returning to Ireland in 1990, he ministered in Sunday’s Well in Cork (twice) and is currently in St Peter’s Phibsboro. He sees himself as a committed and simple pastor. The focus of Colm’s life is unambiguously “preaching the word of God”. He has dedicated his life to that mission.
Fr Colm will develop the day from Baptism and how it impinges on our lives today. He will then move on to death and how that influences the way we live. The day will feature questions to be pondered between talks. Fr Colm will be happy if we all get one solid idea to take home.
The College provides lunch and dinner for participants of the Day of Renewal and the Union seeks a voluntary donation of €50 (€20 for unwaged). This is to help defray the expenses of the day. Payment can be made on the day or online for registered members.
