Gerard C. Sheridan, class '32
In Memoriam
The death of Gerard Sheridan of Waterford early last year was a source of great sorrow to the College. We had known him so well over the years. Gerard, class '32, on leaving Castleknock took over his father's motor business, and Michael, class '40, also joined him until his untimely demise Christmas 1947. From its base in Waterford Gerard expanded the business, acquiring the Strathans business in Carlow. He formed the Sheridan Oil Company, distributing Jet Heating Oil and other products over the South East. In 1981 he acquired Archers Car Leasing Company and expanded his activities to Dublin and in 1984 his company acquired PMPA Car Leasing, making Archer Sheridan one of the largest leasing fleets in the country.
Gerard was above all a family man. He married Anastasia (nee Quilty) and was blessed with a large family of eight sons and five daughters. For more than a quarter of a century they were welcoming visiting parents as their sons passed through 'Knock: Thomas (class '56), Gerard (class '57), Jim (class '58), Michael (class '59), John (class '60), Pat (class '62), Brendan (class '70), and Anthony (class '77). They saw the next generation too follow them there.
Ill herself, Mrs Sheridan did not long survive her husband. To their sons and daughters we send our deepest sympathies on their double loss. May God grant rest to both their parents.
